Risë VanFleet, Ph.D., RPT-S, CDBC is a licensed psychologist (child/family), a registered play therapist, and a certified dog behavior consultant from Boiling Springs, Pennsylvania USA. She has over 45 years of experience in a variety of mental health roles. She is a co-founder, with Tracie Faa-Thompson, of the field of Animal Assisted Play Therapy™. She is well-known for her workshops on Animal Assisted Play Therapy™, human-animal relationships, play therapy, Filial Therapy, treating trauma and disrupted attachments, disaster mental health, chronic medical illness, and she has been honored with over 14 national and international awards for her teaching, writing, and contributions to the field of psychology. She is the author of dozens of books, chapters, articles, manuals, and videos, and her recent book, Animal Assisted Play Therapy, written with Tracie Faa-Thompson, has received international acclaim and has been nominated as the best book on the human-animal bond for 2017-2018. She has extensive experience involving dogs and horses in AAPT, and has trained people throughout the world to build reciprocal relationships and work responsibly with their horses, dogs, cats, goats, cows, and more.
